Translating culture

have on this blog know, I translated a lot of songs and a whole lot of these are broken down quickly. Some of these, it does not matter because they are more modern pop, not exactly, but something like that could just as in Tokyo, Los Angeles or London to be sung. But the "cultural", a text is, the harder it is known to the translation. This make it not so much the obvious differences, the problems because they initially fall on the translator, who then translated mostly so that even in translation is a bit of unusual.
.
If the protagonist eats kimchi, then leave it in the translation either as it is, adds a clumsy words such as "the Korean national dish" to or or or. If this is velor something, then that's unfortunate, but not the worst.
.
is much worse, for example, when one is lured in the wrong direction. One of the main problems with a translation of "Jindallae Ggot '(Azalea) into English was, for example, that the azalea there a greenhouse was reserved for the royal family, very expensive, culturally charged with meanings of luxury, exclusivity and rarity. In the poem, however, the azalea is the meaning of "free gift of nature" because the man can throw anything other than what he finds. The azaleas of Yaksan are indeed very beautiful, but they grow to millions.
.
Is the speaker in "Azalea" So Korea in a simple, poor man, his lover can offer nothing but the simplicity of beautiful flowers, he will, despite adherence to the text translation in English to an extremely rich, even probable noble gentlemen, of his lover on the way and sprinkled with rare azaleas.
.
A similar example brings the operator of the really nice blog "Ask A Korean" by trying one of my very favorite songs, translated by Jang Sa-ik Jilleggot. Unlike me, he takes but the time to respond to the text and provides its readers with a detailed description of the translation process. Fascinating - I would see myself in translating.
.
It shows how difficult it can be as simple text on a non-time 100 words simple fragrant flowers to translate.
