the Wool issue 6 / 2011
the wool sheep want to know today:
thickness yarns are currently "in", to be used in women's magazines for
local models and are found more in yarn shops.
How Do you think it so? Are you using such yarns? If so, what for? Are you satisfied with the results
? And what kind of knitting needle strengths
your comfort zone?
Thanks to Jinx for today's question!
knitting shop in our town I can watch again and again, that thick yarns are readily accepted by customers, either knitting beginner or want to see quick results when knitting and want to invest no more than a few days into a project. Most of them upfront Hats or scarves (often tube scarves) with needle sizes larger than 7 mm. Precisely for these customers well, the advertising will be targeted in magazines. Come on, what we knit, fast! Very few go at some point one step further and deepen their skills, learn that there is something else than just mesh right and that patience (including himself) makes many things possible. Hmm, enough observations, we come to me.
My personal comfort zone with the needle sizes between 3.5 mm and 4.0 mm. So pretty closely. But that I knit most of my projects. For the thick warm winter sweater from Royal Tweed, the last week I've finished (and still must be demonstrated), I have NS 5.0 taken for the thin, short cardigan with 4-fold wool socks (of which there still is no photo) NS 3.0 mm. Thinner needles I only take on knitting, and NS 6 mm only extremely rare (perhaps for a cuddly blanket) and stronger I do not like needles at all. Even the most trend
yarns are not for me. But I probably do not fall into the intended target group for which these yarns are designed.
